Field Trips

Are you looking for an interactive experience for your students? Then consider scheduling a field trip to a Community Green Space.  Our Community Green Spaces are metro accessible, conveniently located at 1480 Girard St in Columbia Heights and 1519 Marion St in Shaw. We offer hands-on, garden-based activities for Pre-K through high school, April through Mid-November. Some activity themes include:

  • Harvesting and cooking fresh, garden produce
  • Exploring compost and decomposers
  • Learning about pollination and pollinators
  • Discovering ecosystems

Check out this video to get a glimpse of what field trips at our Marion Street Garden are like. Thank you to DC Greens with whom in partnership this video was made.

This was the best field trip my team has ever taken. The five senses and how things grow ties in perfectly with the Pre-K curriculum. The garden is also an example of a place in our community that is not often talked about, such as a fire station or police station. Most of the kids went home wanting to grow their own gardens so they can make their own food for their families.
— Veronica McKillop, Pre-K Teacher
Any time my students have the opportunity to harvest their own food with their hands, and taste their creation, I am especially excited. One student turned to me and said, ‘I love this so much. I wish we could do this all the time.’
— Clare Parks, High School Teacher

Adult Group Tours

The urban agriculture movement is growing locally, nationally, and internationally. As a way to support this growth, we are happy to provide tours to groups interested in learning more about City Blossoms and our work. See our interconnectivity model in action at either our Shaw or Columbia Heights hubs.  Email with a description of your group, potential dates, and contact information.
