Volunteers
At City Blossoms, our volunteers are a big part of what we do. We rely on volunteers in order to help build community in the areas where we work. Interested in volunteering with City Blossoms? Here’s a few different opportunities we would like to share with you -
VOLUNTEER CORP: A good option for someone looking for a regular in-depth volunteering experience. Corps members attend weekly informational workshops and engage in hands-on activities March through September, while also helping maintain spaces and build community. Corps members should plan to commit up to 3 hours/week. At the end of the season, Corps members are celebrated at a City Blossoms annual harvest event!
SCHOOL GARDENS: For a regular gardening gig, we need help at our school gardens. Help can be in the shape of maintenance or assisting in children’s workshops. These are small gardens that get a lot of action and traffic. Volunteers help staff keep up with watering, weeding, staking, hanging artwork, dealing with pests, etc. This is about a 2 to 3 hour a week opportunity with flexible day-time hours and requires at least a 3-month commitment.
OPEN TIMES AT COMMUNITY GREEN SPACES: We run two Community Green Spaces that are open to the public through six weekly Open Times. Volunteers and visitors are welcomed to come regularly and help with garden maintenance and kid-friendly activities at either site. (we encourage at least a 3-month commitment, but drop-ins are welcomed). Check out our Home Page for more information on the Open Times schedule.
ONE-TIME WORKDAYS: Throughout the growing season (especially in early spring and late fall) there are several intense one-day workdays meant to get big jobs done. Visit the Events Page for upcoming workdays. Looking for one-day volunteer opportunities for your group? Contact Lola Bloom at lola@cityblossoms.org for details.
OTHER FORMS OF VOLUNTEERING: Since City Blossoms is a growing organization we are always grateful for help in areas besides gardening. If you are looking for volunteer opportunities outside of the gardens send us an email detailing your talents, interests and availability. Some areas where we could use help include: poster designing, event organizing, outreach, fundraising, bookkeeping, etc.
