School Gardens Built in Partnership with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation
City Blossoms is working with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation to build and support ten school gardens in Washington D.C. Four gardens have already been built in northeast and southeast Washington, each uniquely designed to fit the schools and their communities.
-
River Terrace Elementary School
Built with help from students and teachers this space was designed to add a edible component to an already existing rain garden.
-
Beers Elementary School
As a STEM school Beers focuses heavily on math and science. With that in mind the plot was designed to mimic a Golden Spiral, a shape found in nature and also studied by mathematicians and artists.
-
Tyler Elementary School
This school has been in the process of transforming the landscape of its whole playground. The new edible garden, located in the middle of the playground includes a series of circular beds for growing herbs and vegetables.
-
Shaed Elementary School
The goal for this school was to make the front of the building more attractive while creating a space for outdoor learning. Teachers, parents, and volunteers from YouthBuild worked together to landscape the area nearest to the front entrance including the installation of four small raised beds.
