Save the Date: Mustache Masquerade (City Blossom’s Annual Garden Fiesta)

Every June we like to celebrate the successes of the spring and the upcoming summer with a themed garden fiesta. We are excited to announce that this year will be the Mustache Masquerade. Come flaunting your most impressive mask or mustache and enjoy an enchanting evening in the garden, under the stars. There will be scrumptious delights, colorful cocktails, juicy raffle items, and a photo booth to capture all nights best and brightest.

Community Green Spaces SPRING Schedule

Open Times are scheduled sessions that include FREE staff-led activities for children, families, volunteers and anyone who wants to drop by!

Girard Children’s Community Garden:
(in playground by 15th & Girard Sts, NW WDC 20009, near Columbia Heights Metro)

Wednesdays 4-6pm
Fridays 4-6pm, includes the Garden Stand. Weekly fresh veggies & herbs!
Saturdays 4-6pm

Marion Street Intergenerational Garden:
(located on 1519 Marion St, NW WDC 20001, near Shaw/Howard Metro)

Tuesdays 5-7pm, includes the Garden Stand & Herb CSA Pick-up. Weekly fresh veggies & herbs!
Thursdays 5-7pm
Saturdays 4-6pm

Volunteering: Everyone is welcomed to come by and help out during Open Times but if you are interested in volunteering more regularly or outside of Open Times please contact info@cityblossoms.org for more information.

Group Visits & Field Trips: Want to schedule a group visit (for any ages)? Email us and we will be happy to share volunteering and workshop opportunities in either of the Community Green Spaces. Contact Lola Bloom for more information lola@cityblossoms.org)

Garden Stands: Every week participating children and youth run donation-based Garden Stands sharing herbs and produce harvested that day! The Stands work on a pay-what-you-can basis and proceeds support the garden activities and celebrations.

Seeds of Wonder: A Bilingual Garden-Based Early Childhood Curriculum

Coming soon for early childhood educators! After years of teaching children ages 3-5 City Blossoms is publishing Semillas de Maravilla/Seeds of Wonder, a bilingual year-round curriculum consisting of 30 garden-related lessons plus all kinds of resources and helpful hints. Lessons align with typical educational standards and investigate subjects including:

- Observing plant life cycles
- Learning about insects and their roles in a garden
- Creating nature-inspired artwork
- Making garden-inspired recipes

Fun and playful, this book is designed to work for learning centers just starting to explore gardening as a learning tool to schools with established green spaces. Books will be available soon for purchase on this site and other venues. Until then e.mail info@cityblossoms.org for more information.
